Thomas Gerbasi, UFC - Maybe it was the new nickname, or maybe it was the aggressive style UFC newcomer Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou brought to the Octagon that brought out the best in light heavyweight contender Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida, but whatever it was, that’s what fans at the Mandalay Bay Events Center got tonight, as the Brazilian scored the biggest and most impressive win of his UFC career by submitting the highly touted Cameroon native in the second round of their UFC 79 undercard bout.

Thomas Gerbasi, UFC - Lightweight up and comer Manny Gamburyan wasted no time getting back in the saddle after his disappointing injury-induced loss to Nate Diaz earlier this year in the Ultimate Fighter 5 finale, showing no ill effects from his shoulder surgery en route to a first round submission win over Nate Mohr in a UFC 79 undercard bout at the Mandalay Bay Events Center tonight.

Thomas Gerbasi, UFC - April seems so long ago right about now. After a forgettable Spring that saw him go through personal and professional turmoil which culminated in a knockout loss to Matt Serra, Georges St-Pierre rebounded spectacularly in the second half of 2007, beating Josh Koscheck in August and then ending the year tonight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center with a second round submission win over Matt Hughes to win the interim UFC Welterweight title and end their trilogy with a 2-1 edge.

Thomas Gerbasi, UFC - Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. And though he came six years and four days late, he finally showed up with a fight between the two most dominant light heavyweights in history, Chuck Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, and the ensuing three round war at the Mandalay Bay Events Center tonight lived up to all expectations, with Liddell emerging victorious via a three round unanimous decision.
