IFL Internation Fight LeagueOrganization Working On Financial Situation

NEW YORK, June 10, 2008: The International Fight League (OTC.BB: IFLI ) today announced that it has canceled its scheduled August 15 event at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in light of the company’s current financial condition.  IFL continues to explore options for maximizing shareholder value.  However, if the IFL is unable to successfully leverage any of those options, the company may seek protection from its creditors through a court proceeding.

The IFL is working with other top MMA organizations to keep its top fighters active in the sport and showcase their talent, while it pursues options that may enable it to continue its MMA operations.  Several IFL athletes will compete on the Adrenaline MMA card in Chicago on June 14, and announcements with other promoters working with IFL athletes are expected in the near future.  The IFL will also continue to downsize its staff to reduce costs.

International Fight League™ (IFL) has its headquarters in New York.  For more information about IFL, please see:  www.ifl.tv.

Greg DeSanctis discusses Danillo Villefort’s submission of Mike Massenzio on May 16th on IFL’s website.

One of the big surprises to come out of the International Fight League’s most recent event on May 16 was Brazilian Danillo Villefort. He would top New Jersey’s rising star Mike Massenzio with a kneebar submission just 3:25 into the first round.

Riding a nine-fight win streak, Massenzio was heavily favored entering the match and was named to Sports Illustrated’s list of Top 10 Up-and-Comers just days before taking the ring. Villefort, on the other hand, was relatively unknown, especially in the United States as the majority of his previous wins had taken place overseas.

It was an interesting matchup with Massenzio, an accomplished wrestler, versus Villefort who comes from a long pedigree of jiu jitsu black belts. Both fighters’ strengths played into the other’s weaknesses and it would be a matter of strategy to see who could overcome. Massenzio had the clear size advantage and right from the start, it was obvious that it was his game plan to take the Brazilian to the mat. He would use his power to try and overwhelm him, but he may have overlooked the guiding principle that jiu jitsu was designed for weaker fighters to defeat their larger opponents by basically outsmarting them.

Ten months ago nobody paid much attention to Dan Miller. When he filled in for Fabio Leopoldo at the Semi-Finals of the 2007 Playoffs, people barely blinked. He was just a fill-in, a nobody replacement. Even when he nearly decapitated Dave Philips with what would come to be known as the “guillotine from hell,” it was shrugged off.

Renzo Gracie has been late for pretty much every meeting he’s ever had. He leaves people waiting, wondering where he is as they curse him under their breath. After what seems like hours, when all hope is lost that he’ll ever show up, he glides into the room and instantly makes everyone forget why they were mad. Some may even feel a little guilty for thinking all those awful things about him. It’s strange, but somehow he’s right on time.

When the International Fight League brought the World Grand Prix Finals to Uncasville, CT five months ago, everyone at the Mohegan Sun arena left with a consensus feeling that that was about as good as Mixed Martial Arts ever gets.

Just as Robert Frost was once forced to chose from two paths diverging in a yellow wood, we have all chosen a path in life, and the one Brad Imes took has seen as many twists and turns as the giant Burmese python he keeps next to his bed.
